Er, Lehrer aus einem kleinen schsischen Stdtchen, beschreibt seinen Soldatenalltag als Hauptwachtmeister in einem Dorf im besetzten Frankreich und kommentiert den Kriegsverlauf an allen Fronten. Erstaunlich ist, wie offen er ber die militrische Lage und seine Einschtzungen berichtet. Sie, Hausfrau und Mutter von zwei Kindern, schildert die Nte einer Frau, die pltzlich in die Rolle einer Alleinerziehenden hineingeworfen wird. Hofft sie zuerst auf Luxusmitbringsel aus Frankreich, so bekommt sie mit der Zeit immer strker den Krieg zu spren: die ersten Versorgungsengpsse, Not und Klte. Zitternd erlebt sie die ersten Luftangriffe im Keller und macht sich schlielich Gedanken ber das sptere Zusammenleben nach so langer Zeit selbststndigen Handelns. Manche Fehleinschtzung des Soldaten Klein ruft heute Kopfschtteln hervor, die eine oder andere Aussage und Formulierung mag uns aufstoen. Doch wer sich mit Vergangenheit beschftigt, darf das nicht ausblenden. Diese zum Teil sehr persnlichen Briefe sind ein beeindruckendes zeitgeschichtliches Dokument ber die Sorgen und Nte, das Hoffen und Verzweifeln zweier Menschen, stellvertretend fr viele Millionen. "Feder des Todes" basiert auf wahren Begebenheiten. Alle vorkommenden Namen wurden aus Rcksicht der Hinterbliebenen gendert. Jedoch die Orte und Handlungen entsprechen dem Briefwechsel des Soldaten Klein. About the Author Karl Seidel wurde 1931 geboren. 1995 trug er Briefe, Berichte und Fotos zusammen und entschloss sich den Traum, ein Kriegstagebuch des 1. und 2. Weltkrieges, seines Grovaters wirklich werden zu lassen. Bis 1998 beschftigte er sich mit der Ahnenforschung der Familie Klein und fertigte ein Rohmanuskript an. Jedoch verstarb er im Jahre 1999. Seine direkten Nachfahren (Kinder) hatten fr sein Hobby kein Verstndnis und wollten mit den Niederschriften nichts zu tun haben. So geschah es, dass das Rohmanuskript lange hin und hergereicht wurde. Schlielich nahm sich sein Enkel der Aufgabe an und rettete somit ein Stck Geschichte.
