FIT TO WORK is a book by Gauri Sharma. It is a comprehensive study conducted during her Masters. This book tries to clear doubts as to why with increase in opportunities due to liberalization and globalization, there is still a rising and an alarming disparity between employability of the able bodied and PWDs? Even though there are laws that have been amended with time and the activists working proactively, still the employment ratio of PWDs is negligible. The Industries are unaware and skeptical about their competence and have stereotypes attached to the word ?disability'. The NGOs and the Industries are working on two different dimensions. Even though the NGOs are training PWDs to be skillful workers the Industries feel that it is not at par with the organizational needs. On the other hand PWDs feel that the attitude of the people in the industries and lack of support from the government is another issue. Even though few of them are employed, it is mostly at the lower levels which is not at par with their qualifications. The author feels that the culture, perception and HR policies of the organizations also play a vital role in the employment of the PWDs.
