The third edition of this work covers all the groups of living organisms, and has new concise introductory sections on the general features of each of the five kingdoms: bacteria; protoctista; animals; fungi; and plants including background information and definitions. Photographs, some by Karlene Schwartz, drawings and brief essays describe representative members of each phylum. The book is decent with nice illustrations, but the delivery took way too long. I was excited to receive it, but when it finally arrived, it was a bit of a letdown in terms of depth. I expected more info for the price.

Not What I Expected
I thought this would have more in-depth explanations of each phyla, but it’s more of a visual guide. It’s good for a quick reference, but not for thorough study. Might be better for younger students or casual readers.
