El presente trabajo se llev a cabo en la Unidad Acadmica de Agricultura en Xalisco, Nayarit, en el cultivo de calabaza japonesa. Se realizaron muestreos cada siete das en un periodo de tres meses (septiembre a noviembre del 2008), se utilizaron dos tipos de muestreo: trampas azules y aspirado de insectos. Se identificaron nueve especies, cuatro son de hbitos depredadores, dos consideradas fitfagas y tres que se desconoce su tipo de alimentacin. En funcin a la fluctuacin poblacional, la mayor captura de thrips se registr en poblaciones de campo abierto con un total de 50 especmenes (29 de octubre 2008), en invernadero se presentaron dos picos uno el 24 de septiembre (20 especmenes) y el otro el 5 de noviembre (21 especmenes). Se observ que la poblacin de thrips aument en el periodo de ausencia de precipitacin pluvial (22 de octubre al 26 de noviembre). El color amarillo de las flores del cultivo de calabaza japonesa, la biomasa de la vegetativa son factores que determinan la variabilidad de especies fitfagas y depredadoras de thrips en el cultivo.
