Forgetfulness is a book about modern culture and its profound rejection of the past. It traces the emergence in recent history of the idea that what is important in human life and work is what will happen in the future.Francis OGorman shows how forgetting has been embraced as a requirement for modern existence and how our education, as well as life with fastmoving technology, further disconnects us from our pasts. But he also examines the cultural narratives that urge us to resist our collective amnesia. OGorman argues that such narratives, in rich but oblique ways, indicate our guilt about modernitys great unmooring from history.Forgetfulness asks what the absence of history does to our sense of purpose, as well as what belonging both to time and place might mean in cultures without a memory. It is written in praise of the best achievement and deeds of the past, but is also an expression of profound anxiety about what forgetting them is doing to us.

This book shed light on the way our fast-paced lives contribute to forgetfulness. I appreciated the research and stories shared, but at times, it felt repetitive. Worth a read if you're curious about memory and tech's role in it.

Not what I expected
I thought this would be more of a self-help guide, but it's really more about the societal implications of forgetfulness. While there were some eye-opening points, it didn't fully resonate with me. Might be better suited for a different audience.

Disappointing and confusing
I was really looking forward to this book, but it ended up being confusing and scattered. Many parts felt disorganized, and I struggled to find the key takeaways. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you enjoy very academic texts.

Interesting read but a bit dense
The book dives deep into how modern life affects our memory. I found some chapters really engaging and thought-provoking, but others felt a bit heavy and hard to get through. It's a worthy read if you're interested in psychology and culture.
