Gegenstand des Buches sind die Mglichkeiten und Grenzen von Normen und anderen freiwilligen Standards im Umweltschutz. Erstmals werden diese sowohl aus dem Blickwinkel der Neuen Politischen konomie als auch der Ordnungs, Wettbewerbs und Umweltpolitik betrachtet. Aufbauend auf einem Gutachten fr das Bundeswirtschaftsminsterium wird u.a. untersucht, ob und inwieweit freiwillige Umweltstandards zu hherer kologischer und konomischer Effizienz fhren knnen, ferner ob sie tatschlich die Abhngigkeit des Staates von Interessengruppen erhhen, und nicht zuletzt, welche Interessen sich in nationalen und internationalen Standardisierungsprozesssen durchsetzen. Veranschaulicht werden die Aussagen anhand von modernen freiwilligen Umweltmanagementstandards (EUkoAuditVerodnung, ISO 14001).
