Jahrhunderts. Es werden die medienspezifischen Grundlagen von Xylographie und Typographie erlutert, die wesentlich fr das Verstndnis von Erscheinungsformen frher Einblattdrucke in Hinblick auf Aussehen, TextBildKombinationen und die thematische Bandbreite sind. In einem zweiten Teil wird auf das Verhltnis und Zusammenwirken von Text und Bild im frhen Einblattdruck eingegangen, wobei auch ein (ber)Blick auf Inhalte und Funktionen frher Einblattdrucke geworfen wird. Ein dritter Teil beschftigt sich mit dem Phnomen des Blockbuches, das aus dem Einblattwesen erwchst. Abschlieend werden die Erklrungen an zwei inhaltlich identischen Blockbuchillustrationen aus der Ars moriendi veranschaulicht.
