In der 2. Hlfte des 13. und zu Beginn des 14. Jahrhunderts pflegten Gelehrte in Oberitalien, unter ihnen Albertino Mussato aus Padua (12611329), das Studium antiker Autoren. Mussato hat die erste Tragdie der Renaissance, die auf Seneca zurckgreift, geschaffen. Der Verfasser legt eine Prosabersetzung der Ecerinis vor. Er stellt ausserdem dar, welche antiken Quellen Mussato benutzt hat. In der Arbeit werden die Studien Mussatos und des Paduaner Kreises um Lovato dei Lovati (12411309) literaturgeschichtlich eingeordnet, und es wird gezeigt, dass diese Paduaner Gelehrten zu Recht als frhe Humanisten und Vorlufer Petrarcas bezeichnet werden.
