Product Description This is the second volume from Fritz Meiers unpublished writings about the veneration of Muhammad and deals with the role of invoking blessings on the Prophet (tasliya) in Sufism. In particular the focus is on the mysticism of the more recent orders in the Islamic West, for instance the Tijaniyya and the Nasiriyya. Meier distinguishes between the mystical cult of Muhammad in these orders and a mysticism directed toward God in earlier orders. The book consists of two parts. Part One, Meiers unpublished manuscript, treats the theory, practice and effect of invoking blessings on the Prophet. It is in fact the first serious study of the modern, Arabiclanguage mystical cult of Muhammad, entirely based on analyzing the relevant sources. Part Two offers over one hundred texts with translations, which provide illustrations of the subjects dealt with in Part One. These illustrative texts have been selected by the editor from Meiers unpublished papers. The second volume contains the general index for volumes one and two. Bernd Radtke was responsible for editing the present work.

I really enjoyed reading this volume! The comments on the veneration of Mohammed are both respectful and enlightening. I bought this for my personal library, and it fits perfectly alongside my other writings on Sufism. The clarity of the concepts discussed was refreshing!

Packaging Issues Upon Arrival
While the insights in Meier's work are solid and well-articulated, I was disappointed with how the book arrived. The cover was slightly damaged during shipping, which detracted from my excitement to read it. The content is compelling, but the delivery experience was a letdown.

Fritz Meier's analysis is intriguing, particularly regarding the Sufi interpretations. However, I hoped for more depth in some sections. The writing flows well, but there are times when I felt left wanting more detailed examples or discussions.

The first volume from Fritz Meier is a fascinating exploration of Mohammed veneration in Sufi contexts. As someone studying religious texts, I found the commentary rich and insightful. The layout is clear, making complex ideas easier to digest, although it took a little while to navigate through some of the references.
