Das Buch stellt FRM vor, ein Framebasiertes Modell zur Reprsentation von Wissen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf der Ausarbeitung der Semantik seiner Reprsentationskonstrukte. Zur formalen Spezifikation dieser Semantik werden Integrittsbedingungen formuliert, die unzulssige, in jedem Fall bedeutungslose Reprsentationsstrukturen ausschlieen. Damit wird die Basis gelegt fr ein Wissensverwaltungssystem, das die Einhaltung dieser Integrittsbedingungen berwacht und somit die Gewhrleistung der Validitt einer Wissensbasis zu einem betrchtlichen Teil bernehmen kann. Ein(e) Wissensingenieur(in), der/die insbesondere beim Aufbau groer, vernetzter Wissensbasen Schwierigkeiten hat, die bersicht zu bewahren, kann dadurch erheblich entlastet werden, und es wird somit ein Beitrag geleistet, die bei der Erstellung groer Wissensbasen entstehende Komplexittsbarriere aufzubrechen. Neben der Spezifikation der Reprsentationsstrukturen von FRM werden auch Anfrage und integrittserhaltende nderungsoperationen diskutiert, womit ein hufig in Wissensreprsentationssprachen anzutreffendes Defizit vermieden wird. Die Darstellung schlgt eine Brcke zwischen Anstzen aus dem Datenbankbereich und dem Bereich der Knstlichen Intelligenz (KI). So ist der Gegenstand eines FrameReprsentationsmodells mit seinen mchtigen Modellierungsmglichkeiten eindeutig ein KIThema, whrend die Aspekte der Integrittserhaltung, die sich aus dem Bedarf nach einer Untersttzung groer Datenmengen ableiten, eher typisch fr die Betrachtungsweise im Datenbankbereich sind. Entsprechend werden Bezge hergestellt zwischen FRM und einschlgigen Arbeiten aus dem Datenbankbereich und der KI sowie ferner der Linguistik und der Kognitionspsychologie.
