Gordon's watercolor and ink drawings are comic and colorful with expressive frogs and many details for children to discover. She uses an effective technique for emphasizing the main characters: the frogs, Mrs. Crumple, and her baby are all painted in vibrant colors, while extraneous characters fade away in a sepia background.
