Este estudio intenta analizar el origen detal rito en Egipto y las posibles razones que tal vez explicaran su pervivencia hasta nuestros das. El anlisis y el intento de dilucidacin realizado aqu se centra en la realidad histrica egipcia, en donde parecen confluir dos influencias que pudieron haber dado origen a la tradicin de la mutilacin femenina y explicar su prctica, lo mismo entre los musulmanes como entre los cristianos egipcios hasta nuestros das: un origen africano subsahariano y su consolidacin entre la poblacin del pas como resultado de las caractersticas del monacato y en general el acercamiento al mensaje paleocristiano como se dio en Egipto en particular. Ello puede tal vez explicar tambin por qu en otras regiones cristianas no se desarroll esta costumbre y sin embargo s se dio en el pas del Nilo.
