Hablar hoy de problemas acadmicos en estudiantes universitarios significa hablar de fracaso. Fracaso para la Universidad, para los profesores, para los padres de familia, para la sociedad y lo que es peor an, para los mismos estudiantes. Pero tambin significa muchas preguntas por responder, por ejemplo, cmo definir un problema acadmico? Cules son sus causas? Son psicolgicas? Son producto de los mtodos de enseanza? Corresponden a problemas de adaptacin del estudiante al mundo universitario? Qu tienen que ver los colegios en este problema? Se trata de un problema de desarrollo de niveles de pensamiento? Es un problema de desfase entre el nuevo tipo de sociedad que est surgiendo y las pretensiones universitarias? Estas preguntas, que surgen del seguimiento acadmico a estudiantes que presentan dificultades acadmicas en la Universidad, dan origen a este trabajo de investigacin que se desarrollo en el ao 2005. Su objetivo fue analizar el problema del rendimiento acadmico a partir de la exploracin de variables cognitivas, psicolgicas y contextuales en una muestra de estudiantes colombianos en la Universidad.
