En la actualidad, el desarrollo de piezas de Fundicin Esferoidal de Pequeo Espesor, (FEPE), ocupa el inters de una parte de la comunidad cientfica. Su principal particularidad microestructural es poseer un conteo nodular hasta un orden de magnitud mayor que el de las Fundiciones Esferoidales (FE) de espesores convencionales. En relacin con su estructura, uno de los aspectos que requiere ser estudiado en profundidad, es la forma de evitar la presencia de carburos (favorecidos por la alta velocidad de enfriamiento). En este libro se estudia la forma de disolver los carburos generados en el proceso de colada, empleando tratamientos trmicos simples y econmicos. Tambin se evalan propiedades mecnicas, poco estudiadas hasta el momento, centrndose en el comportamiento de la FEPE frente a cargas de impacto y fatiga. En el ltimo captulo del libro se da un ejemplo de reemplazo de una pieza automotriz, construida tradicionalmente en acero, por FEPE. Los resultados mostrados en este libro deben ayudar a interpretar caractersticas de las FEPE, adems debe resultar muy til para los profesionales que deseen optimizar el diseo de piezas empleando FEPE como material de reemplazo.
