So ist die Ausstattung mit einem PC heute in deutschen Familien nahezu eine Selbstverstndlichkeit. Das Internet ist das meistgenutzte Medium der Jugendlichen: ber 90% der Jugendlichen zwischen 14 und 19 Jahren verbringen eigenen Einschtzungen zufolge tglich 134 Minuten im Netz. Hinsichtlich der inhaltlichen Verteilung der Internetnutzung entfllt der grte Teil auf den Bereich der Kommunikation, welche im Altersverlauf die bestimmende Komponente bleibt (MPFS 2008). Menschen, die in unserer Gesellschaft nicht medial ausgestattet und integriert sind, leben vom kulturellen und sozialen Leben weitgehend ausgeschlossen (Mikos et al, 2007). Das Verhltnis von Jugend und Medien spaltet sich im ffentlichen Diskurs in drei normative Positionen, die Sss als Kulturpessimismus, kritischen Medienoptimismus und euphorische Medienpromotion bezeichnet (Sss 2004, S.15). Der erhebliche Stellenwert des Internet als Sozialisationsmedium wirft die Frage auf, inwiefern sich die Nutzung positiv und negativ auswirkt; welche Folgen und Konsequenzen die Nutzung des Web 2.0 auf die Herausbildung der Identitt hat und wie der Begriff der Identitt im virtuellen Zeitalter zu fassen ist. Im Folgenden wird diesen Fragen nachgegangen. Grundlegend sollen zunchst verschiedene Aspekte der Mediensozialisation errtert werden.
