Dabei werde ich unterschiedliche Konzepte beleuchten und die damit verbundenen gesellschaftspolitischen und kulturellen Aspekte darstellen. Das Wechselspiel zwischen der gesellschaftspolitischen Entwicklung und den wissenschaftlichen Mglichkeiten in der Hirnforschung nach 1800 soll im Fokus meiner Betrachtung stehen und die Frage nach Erfolg bzw. Misserfolg beantworten. Hierfr werde ich mich mit der Literatur von Michael Hagner, Erhard Oeser, Jochen Schmidt, Edgar Zilsel und Christiane Frey auseinandersetzen, um Verbindungen zwischen der Hirnforschung und den kulturellen und gesellschaftspolitischen Auswirkungen darzustellen. Es wird von besonderem Interesse sein, zu welchem Zeitpunkt und mit welchen Methoden, welche Ziele angestrebt wurden. Dies kann natrlich nur durch einen groben Abriss geschehen und erhebt keinesfalls den Anspruch auf Vollstndigkeit.
