Eine Vielzahl von unterschiedlichen Regelungen in den Mitgliedsstaaten veranlasste die Europische Union, einheitliche Rahmenbedingungen fr die Erzeuger von landwirtschaftlichen Qualittsprodukten zu schaffen. Faire Wettbewerbsbedingungen, der Schutz vor Nachahmung Dritter sowie eine klare Auskunft ber die Herkunft der Erzeugnisse waren das Ziel. Mit der Verordnung (EWG) Nr. 2081/92, spter ersetzt durch die Verordnung (EG) 510/2006, ber geografische Angaben und Ursprungsbezeichnungen fr Agrarerzeugnisse und Lebensmittel wurde dieses Ziel umgesetzt. Doch was verbirgt sich hinter diesen Bezeichnungen? Wer kann sie beantragen, unter welchen Bedingungen? Wer kontrolliert deren Einhaltung? Welchen Schutzumfang bieten diese Eintragungen? Die Autorin Bettina Luftensteiner bietet eine genauere Betrachtung der Verordnung (EG) 510/2006 und der damit verbundenen Gesetze, Richtlinien und Verordnungen. Das Verfahren zur Eintragung einer geschtzten Herkunftsbezeichnung wird nach formalen und praktischen Gesichtspunkten beleuchtet. Weiters werden die mit der Eintragung verbundenen Rechte und Pflichten der Produzenten bzw Hersteller erlutert.
