Product DescriptionArtist Ralf Witthaus cuts a threemeter wide path through Cologne's inner greenbelt, revealing the city's unique architectural layout as a continuous form, as a park. In some areas, however, this path is interrupted; streets, houses, companies, parking lots, remain untouched. Witthaus artistic intervention begins at the Rheinpark, the grounds of the first German Federal Garden Show in 1957; it continues across the Rhine river through the Sculpture Park and across the entire greenbelt to the location of the future 2023 National Garden Show in the vicinity of the Main Market. The drawn path crosses the Rhine again at the South Quay. Since there isn't a continuous greenbelt on the Rhine s right bank, the circular gestalt is described in the areas of existing green spaces only. The circle is eventually completed at the Rhinepark. The central difference: Ralf Witthaus removes something, where others would plant. Of the more than twelvekilometer long circular walk, seven kilometers is clearly drawn to the sod leading through ...About the AuthorRalf Witthaus studied art and design at the FH Bielefeld, AKI Enschede, KHB Berlin, and HAW Hamburg. Joachim Bauer is department chief of Cologne's parks and landscape conservatory. Gerhard Kolberg is an art historian.
