Ausgangs und Bezugspunkt der Untersuchung ist die wissenschaftliche Biographie des Germanisten Hans Pyritz, die vom Studium am Berliner Germanischen Seminar ber verschiedene Lebensetappen bis hin zum Ordinariat am Literaturwissenschaftlichen Seminar der Universitt Hamburg verfolgt wird. An diesem Beispiel werden Einblicke in die Fach, Personen und Institutionengeschichte der Germanistik im Untersuchungszeitraum gewonnen. Konzeptionelle Kontinuitten und Diskontinuitten im Umfeld politischer Zsuren werden beispielhaft an Pyritz' Lebensthema Goethe aufgedeckt.
