El presente trabajo formula una propuesta de modelo competitivo de administracin rural para las empresas agropecuarias del Bajo Apure. Sus principales elementos tericos son la planificacin estratgica y el cuadro de mando; estos dos aspectos se vinculan en el modelo administrativo denominado sistema Integrado de Medicin de Gestin con la finalidad de evaluar el desempeo de las organizaciones en las reas administrativas, competitividad, entorno, mercadeo, finanzas y produccin a travs de la comparacin de los resultados de un conjunto de indicadores por rea con respecto a parmetros de referencia. Uno de los grandes aportes tericos de la investigacin fue precisamente la definicin de indicadores adecuados a la realidad concreta de las organizaciones estudiadas partiendo de un sistema genrico de medicin de gestin. Este estudio enmarcado metodolgicamente en el diseo de campo demostr la posibilidad de aplicar un modelo administrativo competitivo en las empresas agropecuarias del Bajo Apure sin mayores implicaciones en los costos.
