Hoy en da las Zonas Metropolitanas (ZM) constituyen una complejidad social, econmica, poltica y territorial. Esta complejidad implica diversos retos, como por ejemplo la necesidad de coordinacin entre diferentes actores internos y externos para resolver demandas e insuficiencias tanto territoriales como de servicios de quienes confluyen en esos espacios. Un reto mayor lo representa el manejo del agua, por tratarse de un recurso no renovable, fundamental para la vida, necesario para la produccin e imprescindible para la humanidad. Con la finalidad de dar luz acerca de esta problemtica el objetivo de este documento se orienta hacia el anlisis de la gestin en el contexto de dos ZM latinoamericanas, centrndose en una funcin metropolitana: el recurso agua.
