La mayora de ciudades en los pases desarrollados poseen redes de alcantarillado cada vez ms deterioradas. Esto se puede deber a que el proceso de urbanizacin crece a nivel mundial provocando un efecto negativo en la infraestructura de los sistemas, de manera que en ocasiones las redes son deficientes en el manejo adecuado de las aguas. Debido a los altos costos que implica reemplazar dicha infraestructura, se deben tomar acciones enfocadas a la restauracin y/o mejoras de stas para prolongar su vida til o tiempo de servicio. Desde las ltimas dcadas del siglo pasado se han venido desarrollando en pases de Norte Amrica, Europa y Asia herramientas para el soporte en la toma de decisiones, o lo que en ingls se conoce como decisionsupport tools (DST) para la gestin patrimonial de alcantarillados urbanos. Sin embargo, en nuestro medio, la toma de decisiones en la gestin patrimonial de alcantarillados no se basa principalmente en mtodos derivados de las DST. Este trabajo busca revisar y describir los diferentes mtodos y herramientas que sirven como soporte para la toma de decisiones en la gestin
