Nineteenyearold Tommy Dick is killed, only to resurface. Born into a Hungarian family who had converted from Judaism, Tommy soon finds out that in the eyes of the Nazis, hes still a Jew, still a target for extermination. On the run and in disguise, Tommy is chased by death as much as he is by luck. A vivid and gripping account of how the courageous acts of others, unshakeable friendships and Tommys own extraordinary quickwit conspired to save the life of an adventurous and determined young man in the cruelest of times.

I ordered this book a bit ago and it took longer to arrive than I expected. However, once I started reading, I was absorbed in the survivor stories. They are so powerful! Just wish the shipping could be a bit faster next time.

Important, but not what I expected
I picked this book up thinking it would be more about the historical events rather than personal stories. While the memoirs are well-written, I found some parts less engaging than I hoped. It’s a good read, just not what I anticipated.

Heart-wrenching but necessary
Reading these survivor stories was heart-wrenching but necessary for understanding the impact of the Holocaust. The memoirs are raw and honest, which I really appreciated. Definitely not a light read, but an important one.

Insightful and enlightening read
This volume of memoirs is an enlightening look into the lives of Holocaust survivors. Each story is unique and adds a personal touch to a well-known historical tragedy. I appreciated the different perspectives and how they survived the unimaginable.

A powerful collection of stories
Getting Out Alive is a deeply moving memoir that captures the resilience of Holocaust survivors. The stories are beautifully written and really bring the historical context to life. It’s an emotional read, but worth it for anyone interested in personal narratives from this era.
