Diese Studie versucht, die Asthetik des Gegensatzlichen in Kleists Werk als eines seiner zentralen Phanome in den Blickpunkt zu rucken und zu zeigen, wie Kleists Werke sich auch als poetische Entsprechungen zu Adam Mullers philosophischer Konzeption des Gegensatzes verstehen lassen. Dabei finden die Briefe Kleists, aber auch seine journalistischen Arbeiten und die oft ubergangene Lyrik besondere Beachtung. Deutlicher als in anderen Studien zu Kleist soll hier auch die ironischparodistische Seite in seinem Schaffen berucksichtigt werden. Strukturiert ist diese Arbeit als eine Abfolge von Untersuchungen zu Konstellationen, die dieses Werk uberwolben und durchdringen, zu motivischasthetischen, meist kontraren Werkpaarungen und fur Kleist erheblichen Gattungsreflexionen, angeordnet in drei Teilen, die auch als 'Akte' einer intellektuellen Inszenierung gelesen werden konnen, ein Aspekt, der Kleists souveranen Sinn fur szenischdramatische Wirkungen symbolisch spiegeln soll.
