The environment, which serves as a source of livelihood to biodiversity, sink for waste and habitat for both living and non living things, have received critical attention from the government and policy and development partners in recent times. The many disaster that are attributable to the environment has also being a major issue of concern due to the devastation it causes to human and the environment at large. Many of such disaster have been noted to have been aggravated by man's inability to properly protect and conserve the environment and its resources. Such actions have been noted to include poor construction of roads and settlement, deforestation, silting of river beds and pollution of the environment with harmful gases. This scenario, including others, necessitated a review of environment issues presented in the national dailies and the weekly newspapers of Ghana for the period, JanuaryDecember 1997.
