Towns popped up along these waterways as men and their families needed places to live while the canals were built. Some men died in construction accidents. Some died in labor disputes. But life went on. History moved forward. The centuries turned. Some of those people hung around long after they were gone from the physical world. From the man who died blowing a passage in the granite for a canal bed, to the men killed by hired thugs during labor protests, some of these folks never really passed into the Great Beyond.
