Product Description English summary: Gottfried Arnold (16661714) is known primarily for his Unparteiische Kirchen und Ketzerhistorie, which marks an important stage in the historiography and churchhistoriography of the modern era. Both the inaugural lecture, which he gave upon assuming his professorship as a professor of history at the university of Giessen (1697), as well as his previously unknown disputation theses (1697) reveal his programmatic standpoints. The original Latin text has been edited and annotated in the original Latin, and is also presented for the first time in German translation. Arnold's Gedoppelter Lebenslauf, the first part of which was written by Arnold himself, the second part posthumously by friends, is a revealing text for the study of pietist biographies and autobiographies. About the Author Hans Schneider, Dr. theol., Jahrgang 1941, ist Professor em. fur Kirchengeschichte an der PhilippsUniversitat Marburg.
