French master flower painters were responsible for these sophisticated designs. Working mostly for Parisian studios in the late nineteenth century, they produced exquisite patterns whose relaxed naturalism made a strong contrast to the flat, stylized Art Nouveau floral designs of the same used, particularly for interior decoration.
