Giovanni Aquilecchia, connu pour ses travaux sur Giordano Bruno, etait professeur a l'Universite de Londres (University College). Il a etabli le texte desoeuvres italiennes du philosophe, dont l'edition critique vient de s'achever aux Belles Lettres, et qui sert de modele pour les traductions de Bruno dans le monde entier. En offrant une version francaise remise a jour de sa precise et precieuse biographie de Bruno, l'editeur entend rendre hommage a l'eminent philologue qui a si puissamment contribue, pendant le demisiecle ecoule, au renouvellement des etudes bruniennes. Cet hommage a ete concu pour le quatrieme centenaire de la mort de Bruno (17 fevrier 1600). Mais il s'agit moins de commemorer une disparition que de celebrer une presence: pour peu qu'on le degage des interpretations reductrices et de quelques mythes persistants, Bruno interesse aujourd'hui tant la philosophie que la poetique, tant l'art dramatique que l'histoire des sciences.
