Disasters like drought, floods, cyclones, earth quake and accidents are commonly confronted by various states of India in varying proportion and intensity. The direct and indirect economic losses caused by any of the disaster are beyond imagination since they affect infrastructure, natural resources, human resources etc. However, an effective data management and planning can help the authorities for systematic way to encounter the after effects of the disasters like flood . Immediate steps taken on flood are the evacuation of population, proper and uniform distribution of government aid. For this the prime aspect should be to locate net flood affected areas. In this project we develop an automated software system that retrieve the net flood affected area so that immediate rehabilitation can be carried on. An attempt have been made in rectification of IRSID LISS III, PAN,WiFS and RADARSAT image of flood affected areas and convert this raster images to vector layers(coverage).Union and intersection operations are performed on this coverages .
