Die Staatsbibliothek Preussischer Kulturbesitz Berlin zeigt aus ihren reichen Bestanden eine Auswahl von 125 grosstenteils illuminierten Handschriften. Der Ausstellungskatalog enthalt von jedem Objekt eine farbige, ganzseitige Abbildung, zusammen mit einer Beschreibung in deutsch und englisch. Bei der Mehrzahl handelt es sich um Handschriften, die bisher noch gar nicht oder nur ungenugend in Abbildungen dokumentiert sind. Auf einzelne karolingische, byzantinische und ottonische Prachtwerke folgen Beispiele romanischer Buchkunst aus rheinischen und franzosischen Klostern. Die Produktion gotischer Skriptorien ist ebenso vertreten wie hoch und spatmittelalterliche Handschriften. Die Renaissance ist mit einigen Spitzenstucken deutscher und italienischer Provenienz vertreten.
