Fiction? only partly. Hannon (retired attorney worked on western water rights) weaves a ripping good story around the contemptible dam at Page, Arizona. He's ferreted out and includes here some 50 Bureau of Reclamation photos of the very real and nearly fatal damage done by the 1983 flood with a detailed hourbyhour description of the approaching catastrophe. The factual component is large including weather, geology, the politics (of pork), nuclear weaponry, the conservationists' tragic tradeoff of Glen Canyon for preservation of the YampaGreen rivers confluence at Echo Park. Great tale, history, ingenuity, and gracefully written. Fans of the Monkey Wrench Gang will cherish Glen Canyon . Now we want a far bigger collection of the shocking photos of the 1983 disaster (& the movie makers will need these to create story boards). Available from BookMasters: 8002476553.
