glucan was extracted from different sources such as barley, yeast, and plant extract (garlic and ginger). The effect of glucan was examined on the total cholesterol, high density lipoproteins (HDL) and low density lipoproteins (LDL) level in mice. glucan extracted from barley lowered the total cholesterol from 180 mg/dl to 125 mg/dl, LDL from 30 to 27 and it showed no effect on HDL level. Yeast extracted glucan reduces total cholesterol from 180 mg/dl to 40 mg/dl and LDL value from 30 mg/dl to 08 mg/dl; however it showed no effect on HDL value. Plant extract (garlic and ginger) showed the lowering of total cholesterol from 180 mg/dl to 171 mg/dl, and LDL value from 30 mg/dl to 10 mg/dl; however plant extract showed the improvement of HDL value from 40 mg/dl to 125 mg/dl.
