Puede ser que mediante los ideales planteados en el nuevo orden, se presente lo que sera la identidad de un ser humano autnomo, racional y libre. Freud viene a recordarnos lo ingenuo que es pensar que existe un yo unificado racional y lo frgil que puede resultar un sistema en donde los niveles de represin son excesivos. El propsito principal de este ensayo es presentar el origen de los principios morales de acuerdo con la perspectiva psicoanaltica y reflexionar sobre la teora freudiana de que la civilizacin tiene un precio: la reduccin de la libertad individual. Los hombres aceptamos la restriccin de esta libertad, pero a regaadientes, lo cual se traduce en sntomas, en malestares en la cultura. Estos sntomas constituyen el retorno de lo reprimido y son un reflejo de la crisis que enfrenta la sociedad y sus principios.
