Im Gorgias wird das Verhltnis der beiden Schulen nicht von Beginn an systematisch errtert, sondern als Streitgesprch zwischen Platons Sokrates und den Rhetoren Gorgias, Polos und Kallikles regelrecht ausgefochten. Die Besonderheit des Gorgias Dialoges ist also, dass das Verhltnis zwischen Philosophie und Rhetorik auf zwei Ebenen behandelt wird; zum Einen auf einer theoretischen Ebene, in der Definitionen erarbeitet und Schlsse gezogen werden, zum Anderen auf einer praktischen Ebene, in der die Anwlte der Rhetorik mit einem Philosophen streiten. Als Sieger der Auseinandersetzung geht die Philosophie hervor: Keiner der Rhetoren kann der dialektischen Einsicht des Sokrates das Wasser reichen. Zum Ende des Gorgias haben sowohl Polos als auch Gorgias und Kallikles keine andere Wahl, als sich geschlagen aus dem Gesprch zurckzuziehen. Im Phaidros wird ebenso wie im Gorgias als zentrales Thema das Verhltnis zwischen Philosophie und Rhetorik behandelt, allerdings nicht im Sinne einer kmpfenden Auseinandersetzung der beiden Richtungen, sondern vielmehr im Sinne einer grundlegenden Positionsbestimmung. Die Notwendigkeit dieser Positionsbestimmung besteht in der Tatsache, dass Philosophie sich in ihrem Selbstverstndnis zwar von der Rhetorik abgrenzen will, allerdings auch nicht vollkommen ohne sie auskommt und deswegen den notwendigen Anteil der Rhetorik an ihr selbst eingrenzen muss. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, darzustellen, wie das Verhltnis zwischen Philosophie und Rhetorik in den Dialogen Gorgias und Phaidros aufgebaut und dargestellt wird.
