Graded activity beschrijft een gedragsgeorinteerde behandeling die de kwaliteit van het leven van een (te) grote groep mensen met chronische pijn kan verbeteren. De hulpverlener leert om de clint te motiveren tot gedragsverandering en de clint leert om te gaan met de problematiek van zijn klachten. Deze gezamenlijke werkwijze is er dus op gericht dat zowel de hulpverlener als de clint zijn verantwoordelijkheid neemt.Het boek bestaat uit twee delen. In het eerste deel wordt de achterliggende theorie beschreven. Tussen deel 1 en 2 worden twee casussen behandeld die bij de praktische uitwerking van graded activity gebruikt worden. In het tweede deel wordt stapsgewijs de behandelmethode graded activity besproken. De theorie wordt aangevuld met uitgewerkte praktijkvoorbeelden.
