When she was a young girl, Barbara McBrideSmith was introduced to the ancient Greek myths but she didnt quite hear right. When her teacher told her they lived in the cradle of western civilization, young Barbara thought she said Western civilization as in central Texas, around about Waco, where they seemed to fit right in. Ol Man Zeus, after all, was a guntotin Big Daddy, sort of the J.R. Ewing of Mount Olympus. You know Aphrodite, the school basketball queen or Pandora the debutante, the best guitar picker around was Orpheus Tom T. and wasnt Medusa the one who started the fashion trend known as Big Hair? With her incurable Texas drawl, feminist sympathies, and cheerleaders doright attitude, master storyteller Barbara McBrideSmith spins the Greek myths as youve never heard them before.

I thought this book would be more about historical facts, but it focuses on the stories with a fun attitude. It's definitely entertaining, perfect for casual reading, but I was hoping for a deeper dive into the myths. Still, my kids enjoyed it!

Fantastic read for mythology lovers!
I got this Western-style toga stories book for my niece who's really into Greek myths. The illustrations are vibrant and the tales have a fun twist that keeps her engaged. She loves wearing her toga while reading them!

Great gift but arrived late
I bought this as a birthday present for my friend who loves Greek mythology. It arrived a few days past the expected date, which was a bit disappointing. The content is great and the style is unique, just wish the shipping had been quicker!

Not impressed, misleading title
I was hoping for a rich narrative, but this book felt more like a kids' story collection than serious mythology. The 'tales with an attitude' sounded cooler than it actually was. I wish it had included more traditional stories rather than quirky retellings.
