Beide gehren zu den gngigen Wahrnehmungs und Deutungsmustern deutscher Autoren. In diesen Komplexen ist das Motiv der Grenze von vorrangiger Bedeutung: Der Ort zwischen Subjekt und New York, zwischen Altern und Neuer Welt wird in den Texten gesichert, aufgelst oder berschritten. In seiner diskursanalytisch angelegten, auf postkoloniale Theorien rekurrierenden Studie analysiert Christof Hamann dieses Motiv der Grenze in ausgewhlten Romanen und Reiseberichten und zeigt, wie es fr stereotype ebenso wie fr differenzierte NewYorkReprsentationen zentral ist. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf dem thematisierten Repertoire, das insbesondere die Materialitt und die kulturelle Heterogenitt New Yorks umfasst, und den spezifischen Strategien (z.B. Perspektiven, Symbolisierungen, Metonymien, intertextuelle Verweise), durch die das Repertoire in den Texten realisiert wird. About the Author Dr. Christof Hamann promovierte bei Professor Dr. Jochen Vogt am Lehrstuhl Literatur und Sprachwissenschaft der Universitt GH Essen. Er ist freier Autor und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Universitt Dortmund.
