April 1821 in Paris, gilt als bedeutender franzsischer Dichter und Kunstkritiker seiner Zeit. Baudelaire ist noch keine sechs Jahre alt, als im Jahre 1827 sein Vater verstirbt. Ein Verlust, der seine Kindheit schon frh verdunkelt. In Lyon absolviert Charles Baudelaire die ersten Klassen der hheren Schule, bevor er Schler des Pariser Collges LouisleGrand wird. Bereits nach seinem Abitur fhrt Baudelaire eine unabhngige Literatenexistenz, bis seine Familie ihn im Jahre 1841 auf eine lngere Reise schickt. Diese Reise, die ihn bis La Runion und Mauritius bringt, wird ihm sozusagen als Arznei" verordnet. Baudelaire soll auf andere Gedanken gebracht und aus seinem bisher eher ungeregelten Leben gelst werden. Diese Reise bleibt nicht ohne Folgen: nach seiner Rckkehr nach Frankreich fordert Baudelaire im Alter von 21 Jahren die Auszahlung des vterlichen Erbes ein, er beginnt ein sehr ausschweifendes, verschwenderisches Leben zu fhren und wird, was ihm als ideale Lebensform vorschwebt: ein Dandy. Die daraus resultierenden Geldprobleme werden den Dichter Zeit seines Lebens begleiten. Neben einem umfassenden lyrischen Werk beschftigt sich Baudelaire mit Texten von Edgar Allan Poe und verfasst Studien ber Kunst, wie beispielsweise ber den Maler Eugne Delacroix. Nach lngerer Krankheit verstirbt Charles Baudelaire am 31. August 1867 im Paris.
