A warm, humorous tale of ones man long relationship with his gardenGardens, in my view, often involve too much gardening. This is partly to do with the nature of human beings, who will make a competition out of anything if they possibly can.Edward Enfield has only ever had one garden, but his dealings with it have extended more than half a century. He came to his threequarters of an acre knowing nothing about growing anything, and this book is an account of his horticultural successes and failures, inventions and frustrations, discoveries and developments. With wry humor, he leads us through the thorny subject of roses, counts the blessings of keeping chickens, and exposes the perfidy of gardening copywriters, while offering wise and witty tips on how best to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

I found this gardening book to be decent. It’s great that it spans 50 years of gardening, but some sections felt a bit rushed or repetitive. I was hoping for more detailed advice on specific plants. Overall, it’s good to have, but I might look for other resources for deeper knowledge.

Disappointed with the Condition
I received the book "Growing to a Ripe Old Age" and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it arrived with some pages bent and the cover scratched. I’m hoping the content is good, but the state it came in was a letdown. Not sure I’ll keep it, honestly.
