Inspired by fanciful, organic shapes that were popular during these periods, the motifs are based on designs from America, England, France, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Turkey, and Persia. Well known for her thorough hand quilting, Gwen has had diverse experience as a quilting designer, teacher, and magazine columnist. Working with her many sketches made from museum collections, Gwen has adapted the shapes to be compatible with quiltmaking. The motifs can be hand or machine quilted, embroidered, appliqud, or stenciled. Their asymmetrical shapes make them especially suitable for freemotion machine quilting. Their adaptability allows for adjustments the designs can be enlarged, rearranged, and used in blocks or borders. A bonus NinePatch quilt pattern provides a canvas on which to compose a classic arrangement of magnificent designs.
