On a winter day the kind and humble shoemaker Simon finds a naked man in the street. He takes off his cloth coat, wraps it around the stranger and also gives him the extra pair of boots he was carrying. Then he takes him home, feeds him and let him stay for the night. The next day he tells him he can stay as his assistent, and asks him for his name. The man says hes simply called Michael. Michael stays and works with Simon for six years. In all this time he only smiles three times... Then comes the day he leaves, and explaines what happened to him...

"What Men Live By" really opened my eyes. The storytelling is captivating, and I found the characters relatable. I bought it for my book club, and everyone loved the discussion it sparked! Definitely a worthwhile read.

Great for Reflection
This book was a gift for my husband, and he found it really moving. The insights about humanity are spot on. The cover design is nice too! It's a little slow at times, but the deeper meaning makes up for it.

Interesting, but Could Be Better
I enjoyed the premise of the book and some of the themes, but I felt parts of it dragged on a bit. The message is powerful, just wish the pacing was tighter. Still, I’d say it’s worth a read if you’re into unique stories.

Not My Cup of Tea
I struggled to get through "What Men Live By." The plot felt disjointed to me, and I think I expected more action. I’d recommend for fans of deep philosophical themes, but it just wasn’t for me.
