Ihr epochenubergreifender Ansatz ermoglicht es, sowohl zu den grossen Debatten uber die Verdrangung von Frauen aus den Gewerben am Beginn der Fruhen Neuzeit beizutragen als auch die Geschlechterverhaltnisse im Burgertum und Kleinburgertum des 19. Jahrhunderts zu beleuchten. Kontinuitaten und Wandlungen in der langen Geschichte weiblicher Erwerbsarbeit werden bilanziert. Die Ergebnisse belegen eine grosse Variationsbreite an Erwerbs und Geschlechterverhaltnissen.
