About the Author Adrian Batten was an English organist and composer of Anglican church music from Salisbury. Having sung as a chorister at the cathedral there, Batten went on to become the Organist at Winchester Cathedral and later Vicar Choral at both Westminster Abbey and St Pauls Cathedral. At Westminster, Batten worked as a music copyist, and it is due to his hand that much beloved church music from the reigns of Kings Charles I and II are preserved, notably in the Batten Organbook. As a composer, Batten wrote 67 anthems, of which 50 survive, and around 16 services for the Anglican liturgy.
