Er ist ein Mitbegrnder des modernen Dramas (Naturalismus, Symbolismus)'1 und bt vor allem in seinen spteren analytischen Dramen wie zum Beispiel Hedda Gabler' [1890], Vildanden' [1884] oder Fruen fra havet' [1888] radikale Gesellschaftskritik2. Henrik Ibsens Drama Fruen fra havet' bildet die Grundlage fr die vorliegende Untersuchung, die die Funktion der Nebenfiguren in diesem Stck zum Thema hat. Im Rahmen des bergreifenden Seminarthemas Nebenfiguren in den Dramen Ibsens' mchte ich mich am Beispiel von vier Nebenfiguren mit der Frage beschftigen, wie diese die Hauptfigur Ellida Wangel charakterisieren. Auf Grund der Flle des Figureninventars acht Figuren sowie die ebenfalls als dramatis personae' aufgefhrten, jedoch im Stck nicht nher charakterisierten turister', sommergster' und das unge folk fra byen'3 ist es nicht mglich, in dieser Arbeit alle Nebenfiguren sowie ihre Funktion in Hinblick auf die Charakterisierung der Hauptfigur zu beleuchten. Daher habe ich die Nebenfiguren Arnholm, Bolette, Ballested und den Fremden gewhlt, um anhand dieser Vier exemplarisch zu untersuchen, wie Nebenfiguren bei Ibsen eine Hauptfigur charakterisieren knnen.
