Er ist nicht nur auf Grund des Buchumfangs, sondern vor allem ob der Vielschichtigkeit interpretatorischer Mglichkeiten, basierend auf theologischen, philosophischen, soziologischen u.a. Reminiszenzen, Grundlage diverser Analysen unter unterschiedlichsten Gesichtspunkten, mit ebenso changierenden Resultaten, gewesen. Ein uerst relevanter Aspekt wurde bis dato in der Fachliteratur dieses Epos konsequent vernachlssigt: Der seit Menschen gedenken bestehende Kampf zwischen Menschen und Gttern. Es gilt, diese These durch die nachstehende Analyse zu verifizieren. ber den Ursprung des Konfliktes, dessen Existenz in verschiedenen Religionen, als auch die Art der Ausprgung aus der Sicht der Menschen sollen anhand der in Moby Dick erwhnten Jonas als auch Prometheuserzhlung erlutert werden. Da weder der Prophet Jonas noch der Feuerbringer Prometheus handelnde Figuren als vielmehr romanrelevante Allegorien darstellen, ist eine jede Analyse gefolgt von deren Bedeutung fr einen der Hauptprotagonisten, Kapitn Ahab, welcher kontextbezogen als Stellvertreter der Menschheit fungiert. Die Darlegung der oben erwhnten These anhand der als Gleichnisse fungierenden Erzhlungen wird durch den Einschub der Symbolanalyse der Elemente Feuer und Wasser ergnzt. Darauf hin gilt es zunchst zu klren, ob es sich bei dem vorliegenden Konflikt nicht unter Umstnden um den Kampf der Elemente als den zwischen Menschen und Gttern handeln knnte. Nachdem dieser Sachverhalt fundiert errtert wurde, verbleibt die Aufgabe der Eingrenzung, Definierung und zu erfllende Funktion der Figur des Ahab.
