Ist sie nun das menschliche Abbild der schmerzensreichen Mutter", wie Gustav Ehrismann bereits 1927 behauptet oder ist doch eher Gertrude Lewis zuzustimmen, die zu folgender Erkenntnis kommt: Wolfram stellt tatschlich eine knigliche Frau dar mit all ihren Intrigen, ihren um Mitleid heischenden Schwchen, ihrem Stolz, ihren selbstischen Plnen und ihrer letzten Enttuschung und Hoffnungslosigkeit"? Diese Arbeit soll zeigen, dass die Mutter Parzivals von entscheidender Bedeutung fr dessen Entwicklung ist. Sie ist als Bindeglied zwischen der von seinem Vater reprsentierten Ritterschaft "von art" und dem Gralsrittertum, das der Protagonist zu erlangen sucht, unverzichtbare Voraussetzung fr die Weiterentwicklung des Letzteren aus Ersterem. Herzeloyde fungiert als Medium der Zeitwende in ihr und durch sie erscheint erstmals eine dem GahmuretRittertum berlegene Lebensform als Perspektive. Zunchst soll eine kurze Auflistung der gegenber der Vorlage Chrtiens de Troyes vorgenommenen Vernderungen deutlich machen, dass Wolfram die Figur der Herzeloyde entscheidend um und aufwertet und ihr somit offenbar eine neue Bedeutung zumisst. Im Anschluss daran wird anhand des Textes Wolframs der Versuch unternommen, die richtungsweisende Funktion dieser Frauengestalt aufzuzeigen.
