Eine korpusbasierte Sprachbeschreibung kann zum Beispiel im Sprachunterricht, in Sprachdokumentationen, in der Lexikographie oder der maschinellen Sprachverarbeitung Anwendung finden. Bevor man diese Sammlungen schriftlicher oder gesprochener uerungen jedoch als sprachliche Nachweise systematisch verwenden kann, mssen sie zunchst mittels standardisierter Konventionen wiedergegeben, d. h. transkribiert werden, und knnen gegebenenfalls mit zustzlichen Informationen angereichert, d. h. annotiert werden. Beide Verfahren sowohl Transkription als auch Annotation sind somit "[...] grundlegend fr jede Sprachuntersuchung, in der authentische uerungen betrachtet und als Belege herangezogen werden, und unabdingbar zumal, wenn die Menge an uerungen sehr gro ist und zu einer rechnergesttzten Auswertung einldt" (MLLER 2008). Die vorliegenden Arbeit fokussiert die Transkriptionsmethodik gesprochener Sprache. Zu Beginn werden die verschiedenen Lesarten des Terminus Transkription, die in wissenschaftlichen Publikationen oft synonyme Verwendung finden, aufgezeigt und "sauber" voneinander getrennt. Anschlieend wird die breite (konversationsanalytische) Transkription genauer beleuchtet, indem zunchst ein geschichtlicher Abriss der ethnomethodologischen Konversationsanalyse skizziert wird.
