Cuando volvi a Espaa, su fama era ya considerable a ambos lados del Atlntico. El rey Felipe IV le concedi una pensin vitalicia por los servicios prestados a la Corona y el Papa le permiti seguir vistiendo de hombre y continuar su existencia andariega. Aunque su historia se presenta a travs de un yo autobiogrfico, no sabemos si fue ella quien la escribi, si otra persona la redact bajo su dictado o si un tercero se document sobre la historia y narr unos hechos en lo que la 'fbula' presta un evidente servicio a la 'historia'.
