History of the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Consumer Sciences chronicles changes in West Virginia Agricultural College, which was formed in a fledgling state, only recently granted statehood during the nation's greatest internal conflict. It was the seedbed for West Virginia University, the largest university in West Virginia. The college adapted during the twentieth century: admitting women, at first in domestic sciences and now into all programs; adding diverse disciplines biochemistry, forestry, landscape architecture, recreation, textiles, wildlife, etc; and earning international recognition as an institution of higher learning. Through the guiding hands of the faculty, the college remains a distinctive entity within West Virginia University.
By changing our most important processes and
products, we have already made a big leap forward. This ranges from the
increased use of more sustainable fibers to the use of more
environmentally friendly printing processes to the development of
efficient waste management in our value chain.
